How to eliminate static electricity in coating machines

November 2nd at 10:12am

Static electricity often causes many problems in coating processes. In flammable and explosive environments, static electricity can cause the combustion and explosion of hazardous substances. In addition, static electricity on coated substrates can also cause many coating defects: for example, substrates with static electricity are more likely to adsorb dust and dirt from the environment, or may produce defects such as cracks and pinholes on the coating surface.

In the coating process, static electricity is mainly caused by the following reasons

1. The separation of the substrate from the mother roll in the unwinding area generates static electricity

2. Friction of the substrate on the roller generates static electricity

3. The rapid flow or spraying of solution in the conduit generates static electricity

4. Mixing the solution generates static electricity, etc

How to eliminate static electricity in coating process

1. Increase environmental humidity without affecting product quality

2. Grounding

3. Use a static eliminator

4. Use ion fan

5. Electrostatic rope

Static elimination tips

The installation position of the static eliminator is crucial. The closer the static eliminator is installed to the substrate, the better. It is usually recommended that the distance between the static eliminator and the substrate be around 2.5cm for optimal installation!
