UV coated insulation material

November 2nd at 10:15am

In the rapidly developing new energy vehicle industry, the safety performance of power batteries has become a common concern for manufacturers and consumers.

The technological advancement of battery insulation materials, as a key barrier to ensure battery safety, is crucial for improving overall vehicle performance.

In recent years, with the emergence of high-voltage platform vehicles with 800V and above, traditional PET blue film insulation solutions are facing severe challenges, while new UV coated insulation materials are gradually becoming the new favorite of the industry due to their excellent performance and environmental characteristics.

PET blue film, as a widely used single-sided adhesive tape for coating power battery cells, is favored for its excellent chemical resistance, tensile strength, and insulation properties.

However, with the increasing demand for battery performance in new energy vehicles, the limitations of blue film in automated production, adhesive performance, and pressure resistance levels are gradually exposed.

Especially in the pursuit of battery lightweighting and integration, the insufficient adhesion performance of blue film and the potential risk of breakdown under high voltage limit its application in the new generation of battery technology.

The seamless connection ability between UV coating materials and batteries provides more comprehensive protection for the batteries, effectively preventing the risks of short circuits and thermal runaway.

Although the application of UV coating technology in China is still in its infancy, facing problems such as large equipment investment and high material costs, with the maturity of the technology and the reduction of costs, its application prospects in the field of power batteries are widely optimistic.

Domestic and foreign battery manufacturers and coating suppliers are actively exploring cooperation to jointly promote the industrialization process of UV coating technology. For example, leading lithium battery companies such as CATL and BYD are actively transforming from using blue film tape to coatings, while domestic brands such as Matsui Corporation, Gionee, and Nippon Paint are also actively expanding into the new energy power battery coatings market.

Looking ahead, with the further expansion of the new energy vehicle market, the performance requirements for insulation materials in power batteries will become more stringent. UV coated insulation materials, with their environmentally friendly, efficient, and high-performance characteristics, are expected to become a key factor in promoting battery technology progress and industrial upgrading.

At the same time, the industry also needs to explore and innovate more in reducing costs, optimizing processes, and improving product quality to ensure that UV coating technology can be widely applied in the field of power batteries, providing solid guarantees for the safety and sustainable development of new energy vehicles.
